Summary

VARIOUS FREEZING SYSTEMS FROM AUTOMATIC PLATE FREEZERS TO SPIRAL OR MULTI-TIER BELT CRYOGENIC SYSTEMS ARE COMPARED. THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS THAT MECHANICAL REFRIGERATION SPIRAL SYSTEMS ARE THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE. TYPICAL SPECIFICATIONS ARE GIVEN, AND FEW PLANTS MET THE DESIGN EXPECTATIONS OF THEIR OPERATORS. AUSTRALIAN DATA INDICATED THAT 414 MJ WAS REQUIRED TO FREEZE 1 TONNE OF MEAT OF WHICH FAN POWER ACCOUNTED FOR 20% PLUS THE REFRIGERATION TO REMOVE IT. WITH PLATE FREEZERS ENERGY CONSUMPTION COULD BE REDUCED BY UP TO 55%. G.R.S.
