Summary

In the framework of COST Concerted Action 94, five workshops were organized. These are the proceedings of the third workshop held in Milan, Italy, April 22-23, 1993. The recent developments in controlled-atmosphere storage technology and the future potential for control system development are reviewed, including adaptive control systems, integration of information technology into controlled-atmosphere control systems, and integration of discrete control, total management and expert systems. Modelling of the respiration rate of a fruit and experimental simulation of transport by controlled-atmosphere container are presented as steps contributing to the design of intelligent systems. All the papers will be abstracted in the IIR Bulletin.
