The success of hydrocarbons in domestic refrigeration: energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

Author(s) : MEYER A.

Summary

The study shows that energy savings could be obtained by using hydrocarbon refrigerants in small hermetic compressors in household refrigerators. These savings were obtained without changing the heat exchanger. Hydrocarbons are flammable and, in certain mixtures with air, explosive, but it is possible to achieve the same safety standards as appliances running on non-combustible refrigerants. The durability of hydrocarbons is good because of their low discharge temperature and compatibility with materials used in systems.
