The use of propane/butane mixture as a replacement to R22.
Author(s) : TARAWNAH R., HAMMAD M.
Summary
The work studies the actual performance of different mixtures of propane, butane and isobutane in a split air conditioning unit. It was found that increasing the propane ratio in the mixture would enhance its performance as a refrigerant. COP values for 90% propane mixture were 4.2, while R22 had a 2.8 COP in the same machine and under the same conditions. Also, overall performance of the high propane ratio mixture exceeded that of R22, where lower evaporating pressures and compressor discharge temperature were obtained.
