Summary

In a conventional absorption refrigerator, H2O-LiBr is used as a working liquid. Because of the saturation characteristics of the working liquid, the conventional one needs the heat source temperature at least 110°C. And the refrigerant, H2O, has a freezing point of 0°C. Thus, the temperature of the cold heat generated by an absorption refrigerator is limited to about 5°C. The development of the absorption refrigerator cycle that enable to produce subfrozen cold heat by a low temperature heat source is conducted, using H2O-LiBr-1,4-dioxane as a new working liquid. The saturation characteristics, evaporation characteristics, and solubility of a new working liquid for absorption refrigerators were experimentally examined. The results showed that using the new working liquid, the absorption refrigerator can be expected to produce the cold heat of -5°C by the heat source of 85°C, which can be produced by a conventional solar collector.
