Summary

This volume of the handbook deals with the practical use of industrial and commercial ammonia refrigerating and air-conditioning plants. The chapters, numbered as a continuation of Volume 1 (see Bulletin of the IIR, reference 2003-2619), are on the following: pipeline problems in ammonia plants, their functions and construction as well as basics of piping diameter selection, according to pressure drop; auxiliary systems of ammonia installations, such as oil separators and oil piping, tanks, liquid separators and phenomena in vessels with liquid ammonia, valves, etc.; safety (leakages of ammonia from fire, explosion and poisoning, protection against this hazard and possibilities of mechanical damages); construction and pressure tests (installation procedures for compressors, heat exchangers, tanks and pipelines, corrosion protection, thermal insulation, as well as filling with ammonia and start-up of the plant); operation and maintenance (general diagnostic, inspection, service, replacement and repair procedures, as well as personal protection against leakage of ammonia and disassembly rules); examples of ammonia applications in commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, brewery, fruit and vegetable freezing, processing of milk, meat and fish, cold stores, sea reefers, as well as in sport and recreation. Every chapter contains a list of Polish and foreign literature including manufacturers' data and standards.
