Summary
This is the second of two papers on a European research project about (H)CFC alternatives. The first part dealt with the non-flammable substitutes. This part considers the safety aspects of flammable refrigerants. A quality and reliability analysis has been carried out for a large and a small transport installation with propane as refrigerant. According to Dutch criteria the individual risk is not acceptable up a distance of 2.5 and 3.5 meters respectively. By excluding servicing activities the individual risk is acceptable with regard to the criteria used in several countries. Furthermore a list of risk reducing measures has been defined.
