Calorimeter tests of HFC-236ea as a CFC-114 alternative and HFC-245ca as a CFC-11 alternative.

Summary

In a screening process on CFC alternative refrigerants, applying thermodynamic analysis in vapour compression cycles, R236ea had performance characteristics close to those of R114, and R245ca was identified as a R11 alternative. Important criteria for further evaluation of these compounds will come from the results of calorimeter tests which suggest how the refrigerants perform with a certain compressor. Information on capacity and efficiency characteristics of the tested compressor with R114 and R11 and their suggested replacements, R236ea and R245ca, is the main goal of these tests, along with material compatibility.
