Chlorine-free alternatives for CFC-114: theoretical and experimental investigations.

Summary

Potential alternatives to R114 include R236FA, R236CB, R254CB, R134, R236EA and R236CA. These refrigerants and their binary blends have been thermodynamically evaluated for performance and volumetric capacity in vapour compression cycles. As pure refrigerants, only R236EA has a volumetric capacity which matches R114. Five binary blends were also identified as having similar capacities. In calorimeter tests, pure R236EA was confirmed to provide cooling capacity and coefficient of performance very near those of R114.
