Chine : le plus grand marché des produits surgelés.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The Chinese government is now attempting to improve the standard of living in China and is endeavouring to raise consumption of quick-frozen food to 30 kg per inhabitant per year. Consumption of quick-frozen meat products, fish and seafood, fruit and vegetables should reach a level of 60 million tonnes. This figure should climb to 300 million tonnes by 2002 by which time the Chinese quick-frozen food market will be the largest in the world. The most striking example is that of Shanghai, where the consumption level rose from 400 tonnes in 1989 to 20,000 tonnes 5 years later, excluding 10,000 tonnes of exported quick-frozen vegetables.
