Compressors for natural refrigerants: state-of-the-art review.

Author(s) : CAVALLINI A., CHIARELLO M., DEL COL D., et al.

Summary

The performances and the optimal operating conditions of natural refrigerants are quite different from those of traditional halogenated refrigerants, thus it is important to focus on which are the more suitable applications and the compressor types available. In the present review, ammonia (R-717), hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide (R-744) compressors have been considered; it has been developed in two parallel directions, considering both the papers available in the open scientific literature and the on-line product catalogues of the most important manufacturers. The aim is to give some guidelines on the choice of compressors for different applications, pointing out the most important advantages and drawbacks and the most favourable running conditions.
