Developments in fluids, application and design of secondary refrigerant systems.

Author(s) : HESSE U.

Summary

The CFC problem created a new interest in secondary refrigerant systems. This led to the development of new fluids as well as to new designs. It has been shown that the use of secondary refrigerant systems does not necessarily lead to increased energy consumption and that there is in the contrary a potential for energy savings. An important criterium is the selection of the fluid which shall be used as secondary refrigerant. Examples will show the resulting differences in energy consumption, pipe size and heat exchanger design for supermarket and ice rink applications of different fluids.
