THE FIRST ARTICLE COMPARES CONVENTIONAL WITH ALTERNATIVE REFRIGERANTS FOR GREENHOUSE EFFECT AND OZONE DEPLETION. R123 IS THE RECOGNISED SUBSTITUTE FOR R11 AND IS ALREADY IN USE BY SOME WATER CHILLER MANUFACTURERS. R134A IS THE SUBSTITUTE FOR R12 AND IS NOW IN COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION. THE SECOND ARTICLE COMPARES THE BOILING AND CONDENSING HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS AND SHOWS R123 WITH INCREASES IN BOILING OF 10 % AND CONDENSATION SIMILAR TO R11, R134A IN-TUBE BOILING IS 41 % HIGHER THAN R12 AND 14 % HIGHER THAN R22, WHILE CONDENSATION IS 36 % HIGHER THAN R12 AND ONLY SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN R22.
