Experiences from applications of "new" refrigerants.

Author(s) : GRANRYD E., ROHLIN P.

Summary

Plants have been built and tested using refrigerants which are considered environmentally acceptable, such as R134a, R152a as well as non azeotropic refrigerant mixtures. Also new techniques using "old" refrigerants (such as ammonia) are being developed. A short survey of such projects in Sweden is made. Some comments on design philosophy in relation to the properties of the different refrigerants are given. Some tests in the authors' own laboratory are reported with emphasis on practical results. Of special interest are reported data from installations on measured system COP, on heat transfer characteristics and reports on stability of refrigerants as well as compatibility with oil and other materials. Unfortunately there are very few such data made public.
