IIR document

Experimental study and calculation method of transport characteristics of ice slurries.

Summary

The first part of the paper deals with an online measurement of the apparent viscosity. The second part is about the experimental measurement of heat exchange coefficient. Local Nusselt number evolution is computed from rheological characteristics of ice slurry as a function of ice concentration and Reynolds number in the flow. Values of 1500 to 2500 W/m2.K were observed and shown to depend mainly on ice concentration. Methods developed in the paper should be considered as a first milestone toward design of systems using ice slurry as secondary refrigerant.
