Summary
The authors conducted a study on the freeze-drying of human platelets and investigated the effects of the concentration of saccharides, the freezing rate and the initial cell concentration on the recovery of freeze-dried platelets. Shelf precooling proved to be the best method and platelet recovery reached 93% at 10°C/min. The authors recommend further research on the rehydration process and scale-up.
