Summary

Refrigerants, such as high-GWP HFCs, are used in many domestic (refrigerators) or industrial (cold chambers, air-conditioning, etc.) refrigeration systems. Even though they do not harm the ozone layer, they contribute to the greenhouse effect. Following the European Union legislations aiming at reducing the latter, new classes of refrigerants are arriving on the market. Two alternative branches exist, generating very different professional and economic models: one relies on synthetic fluids, the other on natural fluids. This book details the properties of the main fluids and the state of development of suitable equipment and integrates regulatory, environmental and security aspects. Precise recommendations are also given for each application field.
