Low global warming alternative refrigerants for stationary AC&R applications.
Author(s) : SPATZ M. W., YANA MOTTA S., BECERRA E. V.
Summary
New refrigeration system working fluids with the positive attributes of both high thermal performance and low environmental impact are currently in development. These materials maintain the high level of system efficiency we are accustomed to with fluorocarbon refrigerants but with significantly lower global warming impact than current refrigerants. These fluids exhibit significantly lower flammability characteristics than the much more flammable hydrocarbons. Replacements for R134a as well as R404A and R410A are discussed for various applications including household refrigerators, vending machines, residential air conditioning, and commercial refrigeration applications. Chemical and physical properties, including thermodynamic data, as well as some experimental results for the various refrigeration applications are compared and contrasted.
