On pressure drop in refrigerant tubing. Relations for comparisons between different refrigerants.

Author(s) : GRANRYD E.

Summary

Dimensioning of tubes in refrigerating systems is discussed in general terms with a focus on the influence of different refrigerants and their properties. Simple relations are derived for the pressure drop in tubes in refrigerating systems of given capacity when different refrigerants are used. For practical use it is often convenient to have the pressure drop expressed as an equivalent change in saturation temperature of the refrigerant. Relations for this are derived and comparative data are given for a number of different refrigerants, "old" (R12, R22 and R717) as well as "new" (R134a, R32, R152a, propane, isobutane, CO2, R407C, R404A and R410A).
