Type of article: Article

Summary

After a review of data concerning French cold storage, volumes, power consumption, refrigerants used and the regulations for the distribution of CFCs and HCFCs are outlined. The proposed substitutes must exhibit the precise characteristics which are detailed. The short term stand-in or alternative fluids for R12 and R502 are presented, together with the substitutes. After the observation that R22 and ammonia share the main part of refrigeration circuits in cold stores, recommendations are given in form of spread sheets for maintenance of existing plants and design of future plants according to the fluids used and the purpose of the circuits.
