THE AUTHOR REVIEWS THE DIFFERENT REFRIGERANTS LIKELY TO REPLACE R11 USED MAINLY IN WATER COOLING UNITS WITH CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSORS. VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE SUBSTITUTES ARE EXAMINED: COMPATIBILITY WITH CENTRIFUGAL MACHINES, PRICE (CURRENT AND FUTURE), EFFECT ON GLOBAL WARMING, EFFECT ON THE OZONE LAYER, TOXICITY, AND EFFICIENCY. COMPARISONS ARE MADE. IT RESULTS THAT R11 CAN BE REPLACED BY R123, AND R12 BY R134A. IT IS POSSIBLE TO GO ON USING R22, WHICH IS LITTLE USED IN CENTRIFUGAL EQUIPMENT. P. L.
