Summary
In this rather general article, the author takes a quick look at the history of refrigerants, the CFC period and especially, the current period of CFC substitutes. The properties of the new refrigerants, from the points of view of thermodynamics, toxicity and the environment, are noted. The trend toward so-called natural refrigerants is discussed.
