Summary

The author studies in detail the existing differences between R12 and R134a and the practical procedures which must be used to transform an existing R12 unit in an equivalent R134a unit. It is a water chiller with reciprocating compressor, shell and tube condenser and evaporator. The different stages of conversion are given together with the pitfalls to avoid. The results obtained are presented along with the cost of the operation.
