Storage of the pomerac (Eugenia malaccensis).

Summary

The fruits were stored at 5, 10, 15, or 28 deg C and 95% relative humidity. At 28 deg C (ambient temperature), fruits had a shelf life of 4-6 days. Fruits stored at 10 or 15 deg C were shrivelled and showed decay and skin colour loss after 10-15 days, but fruits stored at 5 deg C had acceptable colour, firmness, taste and aroma, even after 20 days (although there were some signs of shrivelling). Waxing reduced shrivelling at 5 deg C, but not as effectively as packing in polyethylene bags, which also preserved fruit colour and firmness.
