Summary

THE STUDY CONCERNS TWO CASES OF INDUSTRIAL HEAT PUMP APPLICATION WHERE LARGE SCALE PROCESS HEATING AND COOLING REQUIREMENTS EXIST. A NUMBER OF MIXTURES WERE CONSIDERED, INCLUDING R114/R12, R11/R12, AND R21/R114 IN VARIOUS PROPORTIONS. PURE REFRIGERANTS R11, R21, R114, R12, PENTANE AND BUTANE WERE TAKEN IN COMPARISON. THE CRITERION WAS THE OPTIMIZED PLANT WHICH INCLUDED THE ACTUAL PLANT DESIGN AND THE TYPE OF EVAPORATOR WHICH COULD UTILISE THE TEMPERATURE CHANGE IN NON-AZEOTROPIC BOILING. THE RESULTS ARE BY NO MEANS CLEAR CUT AND DEPEND CONSIDERABLY ON THE REQUIRED PROCESS TEMPERATURES. D.W.H.
