Thermal storage applied to air conditioning and to refrigeration plants.

Le stockage de froid appliqué à la climatisation et aux centrales frigorifiques.

Author(s) : PATRY J.

Type of monograph: Book

Summary

This special issue of Chaud-Froid-Plomberie is dedicated to thermal storage for air-conditioning purposes, a poorly known technology - or strategy - in France. The techniques used to store cold in buildings and in certain industrial processes are studied. This document includes an introduction to load graphs and histograms, on how to approach them and optimize them. It is shown that a refrigeration compressor consumes less at night by storing ice instead of being operated in response to demand during the day. Hydraulic circuits are given, and an original system used to set up chilled water loops in an urban context is presented. Extract from the table of contents: producing and using electric energy in buildings (energy balance, load factor, electricity in air-conditioned buildings); thermal storage (historical overview, ice storage in air conditioning); thermal storage technologies (with chilled water and ice, heat loss in storage tanks); an aid to decision-making: thermal storage or not? (histograms); the environmental impact of thermal storage; choice of refrigeration compressors; hydraulic installations and operating strategies; thermal storage and chilled water networks; manufacturers.
