2010 ASHRAE Handbook. Refrigeration. SI Edition.

Type of monograph: Book, Guide/Handbook

Summary

This new edition covers the refrigeration equipment and systems for applications other than human comfort. It includes information on cooling, freezing, and storing food; industrial applications of refrigeration; and low-temperature refrigeration. It gives the industry a primer in a wide variety of refrigeration topics, such as storing and transporting fruit, cryosurgery, ice-skating rinks, slaughterhouses and concrete dams. Two new chapters are included: chapter 3 (carbon dioxide refrigeration systems) describes the history of this "natural refrigerant" and why it is the subject of renewed interest today (including diagrams on CO2 refrigerant applications, system design, equipment, safety, lubricants, commissioning, operation, and maintenance); chapter 50 (terminology of refrigeration) lists some of the common terms used in industrial refrigeration systems, particularly those using ammonia as the refrigerant. Extract from the table of contents: systems and practices; components and equipment; food cooling and storage; refrigerated transport; food, beverage, and floral applications; industrial applications (ice manufacture; ice rinks; concrete dams and subsurface soils; refrigeration in the chemical industry); low-temperature applications (cryogenics; ultra-low temperature refrigeration; biomedical applications). An accompanying CD-ROM contains all the volume's chapters in both I-P and SI units.
