Evaluation of a condenser based on mini-channels working with R32 and R410a. Numerical performance estimate based on experimental measurements.

Evaluación de un condensador basado en minicanales trabajando con R32 y R410a. Estimación numérica de comportamiento basado en medidas experimentales.

Summary

This article investigates the replacement of R410A by R32 due to its lower impact on the environment. Theoretical and experimental research carried out to measure the efficiency of the condensation process inside the mini-channel has been implemented in a numerical code that allows estimating the efficiency of both fluids working in a condenser of this technology.

Experimental data show that, for a given temperature or mass velocity, both the heat transfer coefficient and the friction pressure gradient are always higher for the R32. Therefore, a numerical analysis based on experimental measurements is performed to obtain the refrigerant that performs the best. The results show that, although at higher velocities the R410A has a better performance, a given thermal input can be achieved with lower mass velocities in the case of R32 and with a lower compressor consumption.
