HFC replacement for R22.
Author(s) : MUIR E. B.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The paper points out that implementing alternatives for R22 may prove to be more difficult than implementing alternatives for CFCs R12 and R502. The most practical alternative for R502 became blends of HFC compounds which today are known in the market place as R404A, R407A and R507. The problems of fractionation of the refrigerants during the charging process and in the system as a result of leaks became a concern. The major problem has been the need to shift to a new lubricant in order to obtain adequate miscibility to insure oil return. R134a, R407C and R404A are dealt with in more detail.
