Summary

This report was produced by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP) on the invitation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Montreal Protocol. It considers the effects of total emissions of ODSs and their substitutes on the climate system and the ozone layer. In particular, this provides a context for understanding how replacement options could affect global warming. Extract from the table of contents: ozone and climate; chemical and radiative effects of HFCs, PFCs, and their possible replacement; methodologies; refrigeration (domestic and commercial refrigeration; food processing and cold storage; industrial refrigeration and refrigerated transport); residential and commercial air conditioning and heating; mobile air conditioning; foams; medical aerosols; fire protection; non-medical aerosols, solvents and HFC-23; current and future supply, demand and emissions of HFCs and PFCs, plus halons. The digital version of this report can be assessed via the website of the IPCC Secretariat: www.ipcc.ch.
