Product and practice make higher demands on packaging.

Summary
Produce packed in a closed box has to be cooled a maximum of 6 hours in a pressure cooling system. A high relative humidity, closed cold chain makes higher demands on cardboard packaging, and shelf life can be improved by stretch-film packaging in a modified atmosphere. Environmental laws require less waste and more returnable, recyclable packaging; replacement of a wooden tray by returnable, recyclable boxes is an example. Bottlenecks in the use of returnable cardboard from the technical point of view are discussed in the article.
