Refrigerants: new regulations.

Fluides frigorigènes : de nouvelles réglementations.

Type of article: Article

Summary

Refrigerants are once again at the heart of the concerns of a whole profession. In France, it is the new concern of Decree 92, modified in 1998, expected next year, and which should replace a conformity certification system for the current system of certification in the prefecture, which proved to be ineffective. At a European level, the Directive on HFCs is under development. It should not bring a revolution to France compared with current practices. This regulation complements the European regulation 2037/2000; however, it is unlikely to be applied before 2006. In day-to-day applications, refrigeration technicians have adopted HFCs. The annual quantity of the fluids of this family consumed is tending to stabilize. At the same time, the figures concerning fluid recovery are improving and demonstrate the efforts made by practitioners. Dismantling old installations continues, as do reconversions, and new fluids continue to appear. However, in certain refrigerating applications, worldwide decision-makers are considering replacing HFCs with fluids which do not have environmental impacts but represent a health risk, albeit more locally.
