Summary

IN AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS OF ETHYLENE GLYCOL THE QUANTITIES OF ICE AFTER FREEZING WERE MEASURED BY AN EXPANSION METHOD. LARGE DEVIATIONS FROM THERMODYNAMIC EQUILIBRIUM HAVE BEEN FOUND FOR BOTH LOW AND HIGH CONCENTRATIONS. THE RESULTING CONCENTRATIONS OF THE RESIDUAL SOLUTION, THEREFORE, ARE LOWER THAN THE EUTECTIC, THE LARGEST DECREASE EXISTING IN SOLUTIONS WITH A LOW INITIAL CONCENTRATION.
