THE POSSIBILITY OF CONTROLLING THE EXTRANEOUS WATER UPTAKE OF WHOLE BATCHES IS DISCUSSED USING DATA FOR WATER UPTAKE BY 680 CARCASES IN THE SPINCHILLER. THE RELATIVELY WIDE VARIATION IN WATER UPTAKE AND THE UNFAVOURABLE STRUCTURE OF THE DATA MAKE DIFFICULT TO DRAW ANY CONCLUSIONS OF SUFFICIENT STATISTICAL CERTAINTY ON WATER UPTAKE BY THE BATCH FROM THE EXTRANEOUS WATER CONTENT OF THE RANDOM SAMPLE. LIMITATION OF THE EXTRANEOUS WATER CONTENT OF FROZEN POULTRY SHOULD THEREFORE BE ACHIEVED BY CONTROLLING THE FACTOR INFLUENCING WATER UPTAKE.
