The impact of new refrigerants on the Australian cold storage industry.

Author(s) : GRAHAM J.

Type of article: Article, Review

Summary

The author surveys the present state and future trends in Australia for refrigerants used in the food chain. For large freezing and storage systems, the use of ammonia is likely to be extended. For smaller systems R134a is the only realistic substitute for R12, while R22 will have to be used in place of R502 until further research is carried out on R125 or the various mixtures at present under test. It is clear that increased levels of skill will be required for service technicians and higher standards in all design and installation engineering. D.W.H.
