Summary

REVIEW PAPER ON THE USE OF THE RANKINE CYCLE FROM LOW OR MEDIUM TEMPERATURE HEAT SOURCES. THE A. STUDIES AND DISCUSSES THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF FLUIDS, MAINLY OF WATER, NH 3, R11, R12, R22, R114 AND R318 AND OF FLUORINOL AND FLUORINERT. HE DETAILS THE OPTIMISATION OF THE CYCLE, ESPECIALLY FOR R11, R114 AND NH3 AND SHOWS THE ADVANTAGE OF R114, THE OVERALL EFFICIENCY OF WHICH IS HIGHER THAN THAT OF NH3 BY 6%. HE DESCRIBES A NEW REFRIGERATING MACHINE OPERATING ON THE RANKINE CYCLE, WITH FREE PISTON AND SOLAR COLLECTOR. A.G.
