Determination of the experiment circumstances: a necessity in the research of modified atmosphere storage (MAP).

Author(s) : HERREGODS M.

Summary

The combination between the permeability of the film (material, thickness, holes, temperature), the absorbed O2 and produced CO2 (commodity, maturity, temperature), the relationship quantity product-package size and the duration of storage determine the composition of the internal atmosphere in MAP. The result is a reduction of ripeness and senescence, a reduction of nutritional and quality losses, a retardation of decay and breakdown and an inhibition of weight loss. For different products the authors need different and appropriate films. Some examples are given. Now prepacking films have to correspond to the requirements of more environment-friendly packaging.
