Summary

These proceedings comprise all 8 papers presented at the AFF (French Refrigeration Association [Association française du froid]) meeting on October 20, 1998 that was held during the IPA Exhibition in Paris, France; it provides an update on knowledge of pre-existing and new refrigerants and an objective comparison of the advantages and drawbacks of secondary refrigerant technology. Extract from the table of contents: energy efficiency of direct and indirect systems in commercial refrigeration; various types of secondary refrigerant; single-phase secondary refrigerants; use of a secondary refrigerant in a quick-freezing process for liquid or semi-liquid products; immersion chilling and freezing; drying of sausages using a reversible heat pump; properties of two-phase secondary refrigerants; solid/liquid two-phase secondary refrigerants. Abstracts of these papers will be published in a future issue of the Bulletin of the IIR.
