Summary

This paper is part of a series of papers dealing with frozen food storage and distribution including industrial frozen food storage, quality and storage life, important features of cold chain and its elements including large cold storage facilities, commercial refrigeration facilities as well as household refrigeration facilities. This part opens new series of calculation of heat load necessary to completely thaw of frozen foodstuffs as well as examples of equations for the calculation of thawing time have been presented. The second part of the paper will deal with traditional thawing techniques.
