Cooling and freezing damage platelet membrane integrity.
Author(s) : REID T. J., LARUSSA V. F., ESTEBAN G., et al.
Summary
This study investigated the interaction between the platelet cytoskeleton and membrane during storage at 4 °C for 1-21 days, using EGTA/AM and cytochalasin B as platelet protectants. Treated platelets showed a gradual loss of membrane integrity reaching a maximum at 7 days. Untreated platelets had complete loss of integrity and function after 1 day of storage.
