Summary

Breaded chicken products show highest growth rate on domestic market. Ready meals, entrées, pizza and vegetables all score gains; but shellfish, snacks and desserts as well as meat and potatoes decline. Ice cream also suffers setback. The French frozen food industry nevertheless expanded by 34,000 tons in 1996 to hit the 1,728,000-ton mark. In multiples, tonnage was off 1.5%, overall sales there were off 0.7%.
