EXPERIMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT ON THE USE OF MICRO-WAVE HEATING FOR DEFROSTING BLOCKS OF BUTTER (25.4 KG) AT 259 K (-14 C) TO 255.2 K (-18.2 C) INITIAL TEMP. THE DEFROSTING TO 279 K (+ 6 C) TOOK 18 MIN, AND IT IS CALCULATED THAT TO DEFROST A BLOCK OF BUTTER (FROM 253 K TO 288 K (+ 15 C) WOULD REQUIRE 2.22 KWH. (DAIRY SCI.
