Summary
Points out that the most important media for heat pumps up to now (R12, R22, R502 and R114) must be phased-out within the next few years. Describes the possibilities for replacing at least R12 and R114 by R134a and R227. States that due to their chemical stability, their compatibility with materials used, their non-flammability and their thermodynamic properties, these products can be employed as the new heat pump working fluids (condensing temperatures up to 90 deg C). The new refrigerants represent the best compromise between safety aspects, efficiency and global warming.
